Chinese typing practice online FAQ

Is this free Chinese typing practice online?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no account required.
How do I start a typing session?
Choose Start practice below the passage. A floating practice panel opens with the current pinyin target and the full virtual keyboard.
Can I use my physical keyboard?
Yes. Once the practice panel is open, your physical keyboard and the virtual keyboard use the same input. The next key is highlighted on both.
Do I need to press Space after every Chinese character?
No. Type each pinyin syllable continuously. Press Space only when the target shows a space, which is normally used to pass punctuation or existing whitespace.
Do I need to type tone marks?
No. Type lowercase pinyin letters without tone marks. When a syllable contains ü, type v, as in common Chinese input methods.
Why does the cursor stay in place after a mistake?
Only the correct key advances the cursor. A wrong key is counted as a mistake but does not move the cursor; Backspace removes the previous accepted letter.
What does the yellow character highlight mean?
The yellow highlight marks the Chinese character whose pinyin you are entering. The practice panel shows the remaining letters for that character and highlights the expected keyboard key.
How are speed and score calculated?
CPM counts pinyin letters per minute, and WPM is CPM divided by five. Accuracy is correct keystrokes divided by all attempts. The score combines accuracy (70%) with speed (30%, capped at 300 CPM).
What happens when I reach 100%?
A result dialog shows your speed, accuracy, score, and mistakes, then asks whether you want another article. Confirm to receive a randomly selected article from the no-repeat practice deck and continue immediately.
Can I repeat the same article?
Yes. Choose Practice this article again to clear the current input, timer, mistakes, and score, then restart from the first pinyin target.
